Same distance
OUTSIDE
Encourage your child to predict how many footsteps they would need between two different parts of your yard or local environment.
For example, how many footsteps is the clothesline from the house?
The flowerbed to the shed?
Once your child has made their prediction, ask them to measure by taking footsteps (making sure they are measuring heel to toe with no space in between).
Discuss the accuracy of their prediction.
Now ask your child to predict which two distances they think are the same or very similar.
For example, they might predict that the length of the front porch is the same distance (number of footsteps) as the length of the garden bed.
Then they can measure exactly to test their predictions.
