Rotating patterns

When you are travelling, encourage your child to look for patterns that are created by rotating shapes.

These are commonly found in mosaics, tiled areas and paved areas.

Ask your child to describe what they notice about the different shapes they see.

Some questions to ask include:

• How are the different shapes positioned within the pattern?
• What smaller shapes make up the larger shape?
• Which parts of the pattern are the same/ repeat?
