Playdough sausages
INSIDE
Create several playdough ‘sausages’ of different lengths, and bend and twist them into different shapes.
Lay them next to each other on a flat surface, making sure they are not completely straight (they may even be coiled).
Ask your child to observe the sausages and describe what they notice about each.
They then predict which one is longer than the other.
Next, ask your child to select a “unit” to measure each sausage (e.g. a Lego block or a pencil sharpener).
First, ask them to predict which sausage is the longest.
Next, ask them to guess how many units long they think each sausage is.
They then measure the length of the sausage using the unit.
