Using pieces of paper that are the same size (e.g. A4 or squares of paper towel), ask your child to fold it in half.

They might fold it vertically or horizontally like this:

Now fold your piece of paper in half, this time, in a different way to your child.

For example, across the diagonal:

Ask your child what they notice about the two different ways the paper has been folded.

Are they both folded in half? Why or why not?

Discuss what it means to have folded your page in half (e.g. two equal parts of the same whole).
