Fraction hunt
INSIDE
Ask your child to write down the fractions they are likely learning about at school on separate pieces of paper.
These may include a whole, half, quarter, and three-quarters, but there might be others they are familiar with.
Place the cards face down between the two of you and ask your child to flip over a fraction card.
You need to find something inside the home that represents that fraction.
For example, if they flip over the card of ‘three quarters’, you might fill your drink bottle three-quarters full or go get your footy boots because you played three-quarters of the game last weekend.
To extend this task, you could flip over two cards and combine the fractions, such as one whole and one half; and you need to find an object that represents one and a half. If the fractions you flip are too hard to combine, you can choose to flip again.
