Equal or unequal?

For this activity, you will need a piece of paper (or sheet of newspaper), a collection of (approximately 10) small objects of roughly the same size and a small container.

Fold the piece of paper in half.

Draw a hand in each half of the paper, like this:

Place the objects in the container and tip them out over the page.

Move the counters onto the hand on that side of the page.

Ask your child to look at the two groups of counters and give a ‘thumbs up’ if the two groups are equal, or a ‘thumbs down’ if the groups are unequal.

Now they can check by counting.

You can change the total number of objects you throw each time.
