Coding the dinner table
INSIDE
Setting the table for a meal will help your child to learn to follow simple instructions.
Decide how many people will be seated at the table and discuss what is needed for each setting.
For example, you might set a placemat, a knife and fork, a plate, a napkin and a glass for each person.
Ask your child to think about how many items they need and the order in which they need to set the items (e.g. the placemat needs to be under the plate and the cutlery, so it’s best to set this item first).
Create a routine with your child for setting the table each night, reinforcing the order and number of items needed.
